ART STATEMENT

My artistic practice stems from an uncontrollable need to create visual expressions of the narratives circulating in my head. My artwork, in that sense, tells stories in which symbolism exists in a continuous interplay with verbal frameworks. Each of the elements I include in my compositions allegorizes a feeling, an emotion, the restless attempt to process experiences. Through the use of surreal, yet figurative, imagery, I seek to delve into the connection that forms between the perception of a shocking event and the subsequent emotionality that inevitably derives from it.

Regarding my creative process, I prefer to not use references other than the recollections of my mind. I come up with ideas and then, no fear-no shame, I go for them.

I invite viewers to approach my paintings and drawings as one approaches an oneiric dwelling, through the observation of the succinct metaphors suggested. I want to remind them that there are infinite possible interpretations for all happenings, but especially for those that have the potential to make us question the understanding of each our own individual realities.

BIO

Isis A, a.k.a. Fourtoeight, is a freelance graphic artist based in Madrid, Spain. Her work encompasses disciplines such as painting, illustration, and graphic design, and has been featured in a variety of media, from editorial to video games and large scale displays. Other than engaging with client projects and commissions, she keeps a relentless personal practice of creating medium to large format paintings mostly within, but not limited to, the realms of pop-surrealism.

Isis A was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1987. After living in Madrid for some years during her childhood, she returned to her hometown upon her mother's death in 1993. These events allowed her to spend much of her childhood and adolescence with her grandparents, especially her maternal grandfather, a professional restorer of Spanish Colonial art living between Venezuela and Spain, and an enthusiast of the Fine Arts in general, who became her primary influence in all aspects of the visual arts. After finishing her studies in Biology, she returned to Madrid, where she attended classes at the Higher School of Professional Illustration (ESDIP).

In 2019, she began her career as an illustrator and designer. Although illustration had been on her professional horizon for several years, the need for a consistent, personal artistic practice arose sometime in 2017 and continues to this day, with an eye toward the future.
